As part of new ACMA requirements, SMS Sender ID registration will soon be available through GoLogic platforms. If your business uses alphanumeric Sender IDs for outbound SMS, or you manage SMS communications on behalf of end users, you'll need to ensure all Sender IDs are registered ahead of ACMA's mandatory deadline of 1 July 2026.
As an approved ACMA Telecommunications Provider, GoLogic will provide the tools and support to manage SMS Sender ID registration on your behalf and, where applicable, on behalf of your end users. This includes admin controls that allow GoLogic partners to review and approve Sender ID registrations for the clients and businesses they manage.
We'll notify you as soon as registration is available through GoLogic platfroms. In the meantime, there are steps you and your end users can take right now.
What is changing and why it matters
From 1 July 2026, all SMS sent using an alphanumeric Sender ID that is not registered with the ACMA will have their Sender ID replaced with "Unverified" by Australian carrier networks. In some cases, messages may be blocked before reaching the recipient.
This applies to any business or organisation using a branded name, rather than a standard mobile number, as the from-field in their SMS communications. It does not matter whether those messages are for marketing, transactional notifications, alerts, or reminders. If the Sender ID is alphanumeric and unregistered after 1 July 2026, it will be affected.
For GoLogic partners managing SMS on behalf of clients, this means the responsibility to register, verify, and maintain Sender IDs falls across your entire end user base. We strongly recommend reviewing and communicating these changes with your teams and end users now, so no one is caught short when enforcement begins.
Three steps to take before registration opens
1. Ensure Sender IDs meet ACMA's format requirements
Encourage your users to start reviewing the Sender IDs they plan to register. Under the new rules, a valid Sender ID must:
Any Sender ID that fails these requirements will not be eligible for registration. Catching issues now avoids delays when registration opens.
2. Update authorised contacts on the Australian Business Register (ABR)
Sender ID registration requires identity verification against the ABR. Before applying, businesses should confirm that:
If these details are out of date, the verification process will stall. This is one of the most common causes of registration delays across other jurisdictions that have implemented similar frameworks, and it is entirely avoidable with a quick check now.
3. Set up a myID Digital ID
ACMA uses myID (formerly myGovID) to authenticate the person applying to register an alphanumeric SMS Sender ID. If an authorised person in your organisation, or within your end users' organisations, does not already have a myID Digital ID, we recommend setting one up in advance. This is a separate step that sits outside GoLogic's registration process, so earlier is better.
Further guidance for businesses and organisations is available on the ACMA website.
